50 One-Page Biblical Studies for Colorado Springs Church of God (7th Day)

These fifty papers are intentionally written to be one-page in length. The concept is to go right to the heart of the matter, nail it down and then provide Biblical scriptures showing the doctrinal proof of the matter. This method allows for one to conduct their own study and to continue on into deeper personal Bible study of these fifty topics. It is important for the individual student to look up ALL the scriptures in each study.

Kingdom of God

The Kingdom of God (kingdom of heaven) is realized in three phases:

Part 1. The Present Kingdom: The spiritual kingdom of grace exists now as God rules in the lives of obedient believers. This kingdom was announced and revealed through the prophets and the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ. We enter this kingdom when we turn from sin to serve God through faith in Jesus Christ.

…”God’s kingdom is truly present in the person and ministry of the Lord Jesus. “…the kingdom of God has come upon you” (Matt. 12:28a). “The kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:20-21). Thus “we may refer to the present phase of God’s kingdom as the spiritual kingdom, or the kingdom of grace” (TWB pg. 189). “…we also recognize…the kingdom of God is yet to come.” “God’s kingdom is already here in the hearts and lives of Christian’s, but it is not yet here in its ultimate, glorious form” (TWB pg. 190).

Part 2. The Millennial Kingdom of Christ: Jesus will return to earth in power and glory to resurrect the righteous dead, bestow immortality and eternal life upon the resurrected and the living righteous, avenge the saints, and be glorified in them. His earthly reign of one thousand years will be a universal kingdom in which all principalities, powers, and enemies are overcome. At it conclusion, the unrighteous will be resurrected to suffer annihilation at the great white throne judgement.

“The marvelous age to come will be introduced by Christ’s return and resurrection of the dead (I Cor. 15:21-23ff; 2 Tim. 4:1; Rev. 19:11-20:6).” At this time of the return of Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords , the great day of the Lord all nations and kingdoms begin to come under the rule of Jesus Christ and the 1,000 year millennial reign of Jesus begins (I Thes. 4;13-17; Zech. 14:1ff; Acts 1:10-12). The glorious Kingdom of God ruled by Jesus and His resurrected saints is found in hundreds of scriptures throughout the Bible. Some examples are: Isa. 2:2-4; 9:6-7; 11:1-9; 65:17-25; Jere. 23:5-6; 33:14-18; Dan. 2:44; Micah 4:1-8; Zech. 14:3-9; Hab. 2:14; Matt. 25:31ff; Luke 1:32-33, 68-79; I Cor. 15:23-28; Rev. 19:11-21. The coming of Jesus will usher in…the kingdom of heaven (God). Rev. 20:1-7 shows us it will be a 1,000 year reign of righteousness (TWB pg. 191-195).

Part 3. The Eternal Kingdom of God: God’s eternal kingdom will begin when Jesus Christ, having put all enemies under His feet, turns the kingdom over to the Father. God will dwell with the redeemed in a new heaven and a new earth where no disappointment, defilement, or death can enter and where righteousness and peace will prevail forever.

After the 1,000 year millennial reign of Christ on earth when all enemies have been conquered by Christ, then the Eternal Kingdom of God will begin. During this time and forever more God will dwell with His people and His people will dwell with Him. The new earth and the Heavenly City of the New Jerusalem (II Pet. 3:13 also describe in Rev. 21 and 22) will descend to earth and be the home of God and His people (Rev. 21:1-7). At this time there will be no more death, sorrow, crying or pain. Then, the “Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end” will rule forever more in the wonderful Kingdom of God. The bride (Church of God) will become the bride of Christ and the glory of God almighty will shine forever more in beauty and righteousness. Forever more, the people of God will be the sons of God (Rom. 8:14-18) living in everlasting harmony with God the Almighty our righteous King of Kings and Lord of Lords. This is the ultimate destiny of mankind!

This summary of the Kingdom of God is from the COG7 book, This We Believe (TWB), published and distributed by Bible Advocate Press PO Box 33677 Denver, CO 80233 2012 ed.

Kingdom of God-What it Will be Like

The first time Jesus came the Jews expected Him to come as a lion to defeat the oppressive Roman Empire. He came as a lamb for the slaughter. The second time Jesus comes, today’s “Christianity” expects Him to come as a lamb. He will come as a lion and conquer this earth and expel all evil from humanity and usher in the wonderful Kingdom of God. What will God’s Kingdom be like? What will this world be like under the Kingship of Jesus Christ? Jesus will return to a time of great calamity and war that covers the entire earth (Matt. 24; Luke 21; Mark 13). At His return three things will begin to happen 1) Jesus will conquer the earth and subdue all rebellious kingdoms 2) He will establish His laws and way of life and 3) The world will be engulfed in the wonderful world government of God’s Kingdom with Jesus as the ruling King.

FIRST: Jesus will return at the last trump to a world at war and He will immediately begin to conquer this earth and to establish His world ruling kingdom over all governments of the world. He will bring with Him a conquering army of angels and His newly resurrected family of saints. He will win this war. His Kingdom will be everlasting (Dan. 7:13-14, 17-18, 27). The gospel of the Kingdom of God will be preached until His return (Matt. 24:14). At His return on the Day of the Lord His army will cause destruction (Joel 1:15; 2:11). He will rebuke strong nations (Micah 3:3). He will cause war and plague to destroy the sinful (Zech. 14:1-9, 12-15). Many will be slain at His coming (Isa. 66:15-16). Egypt will be conquered (Ezek. 30:3-8). There is an ongoing war at the return of Christ to this earth (Rev. 17:13-14). Christ specifically makes war against the ungodly after His return (Rev. 19:11-16).

SECOND: Jesus will usher in His kingdom and instruct people on how to live a godly way of life. “This is the way, walk ye in it” (Isa. 30:21). All will go to the mountain of the Lord to learn His ways (Isa. 2:1-4). All will be instructed to keep His feast days and if they do not plagues and destruction will come upon them (Zech. 14:16-21). All will keep His law and family love will return (Mal. 4:4-6).

THIRD: The Kingdom of God will eventually (after the initial war at His return) bring a new age of peace, love and harmony for all mankind. Huge grain harvests, love, pure fresh water, peaceful animals and loving families will envelope the earth under the Kingship of Jesus Christ. Bountiful harvests (Amos 9:11-15). No more war and swords (weapons) will be made in to plowshares (Micah 4:1-5). Jesus will be King over the entire earth (Isa. 9:6-7). The animals of the world will be peaceful (Isa. 11:1-9). Israel, Egypt and Assyria will all be at peace (Isa. 20:23-25). There will be bountiful food, wine and no more war (Isa. 25:6-8). Isaiah Chapter 35 summarizes what the Kingdom of God will be like. We will have a world of beautiful homes, peace, no war and the wild animals will be peaceful (Isa. 65:21-25). All will eventually come to worship God on the Holy Sabbath day (Isa. 66:20-24). Mercy will finally be shown to all (Hosea 3:19-23). The living waters of God’s Holy Spirit will flow out to all the world (Zech. 14:4, 6-9, 11).

God’s kingdom will be what God intended for man from the beginning. A 1,000 year rule of love, justice, peace and plenty for all under the leadership of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
